I have a 1993 Mercury 150 hp XRi that I just bought along with a boat. I have been trying to find a serial number somewhere on the engine so I can get my Ohio paperwork done. I can't find a tag, a plate, a stamping or ANYTHING on this engine. I can't even find a place where one may have been.

I have asked several people and no one seems to be able to tell me where it is. I have looked on new engines and it is a tag one the starboard side of the tilt bracket. I looked on mine; nothing. I see a stamping on the underside of the bracket but it looks like a part # or manufacturer's code. I was told that the Merc serial numbers are 8 digit numbers- are there letters in there or just numbers?

I can't get this engine titled until I get the serial number. Help!

UFM82

All numbers and it usually is on the transom bracket plate or stamped into it. Sucks when they are missing...

In Oklahoma we not only have to title but we must tag 10hp and up! You must have the title for the boat and engine and another form filled out for each and notarized, just to do a transfer! PAIN IN THE ARS!!
