It seems that the mid lakes of Michigan and Huron are down another 18" so in total that's about 7' from the high water mark of 1997.

What's causing this loss of water? It's also to the point where we have to extend our dock another 20' just so we can go out, we have 40' in total now. Has anyone here notice the same loss on Lakes Michigan & Huron?

Re: Where has all the water gone?

Global warming...only minimal amount of the water loss is caused by global warming.

It has to do with the Detroit & St Clair rivers allowing 845 million gals per 24 hour period slip past this waterway causing the Lakes drop. The Chicago diversion causes the rest of the water loss.

The point to my post was if any of you boaters on Lake Michigan or Lake Huron are having a hard time getting around the harbours and coves or your dock when the levels are is this low ? And do think something should be done to correct this problem which is both a Canadian & American concern. If the Lakes drop any more shipping will stop being a economical mode of moving goods through this region.

If they decide to dredge the rivers again all that will happen is more level loss to the shore line. I'll post some pictures of our shore line that has the best Bass spawn habitat at is twelve Ft. away from the waters edge, it's a shame.
