Where do you get Yamaha "Ring free" additive?

I've read good things about this stuff for removing carbon buildup, but I couldn't find it anywhere online for sale. Anybody know of a good source online?

Also, I'm new to the world of 'pouring money in a hole in the water'. I have an 87 Yamaha 90. At initial cold startup, it idles pretty rough at low RPMs, and will spit/pop and die a couple of times before warm-up unless I idle her up a few hundred RPMs for 30-45 seconds. Is this typical? Could be loading up I guess, but that spit/pop (sounds like a backfire) makes me worry a bit. The engine runs great at mid and high RPMs, but seems a bit rough at idle even after warm-up.
Thanks for any ideas. By the way, I've learned a ton just by reading through various posts the past couple of weeks--It's great to see people actually take an interest in helping each other in this day and age!

Welcome aboard Dank.

I don't know about online, but you can get seafoam at Advanced Autoparts or any Carquest store. Shouldn't run more that $6 a can.

Obviously you should be able to purchase Yamaha Ring Free at any Yamaha Outboard dealer but I purchase it at my local Yamaha Wave Runner dealer (personal watercraft).

Any Yamaha dealer should have it.

Not being a Yamaha type, I'd guess a Yamaha dealer for the "Ring Free" stuff.
That thing your engine is doing at idle and low speed is called "sneezing" and it's caused be a lean mixture.

c/6

Hooty

Welcome Dank,
I have the exact same motor and it did the same as yours until I gave it the full going over this spring.
First thing, get the factory manual which gives all the details you need to keep your motor in tip top condition.
I did a decarb using the Yamaha Ring Free which I purchased from my local Yamaha dealer.
Then new plugs again from the dealer as per the factory spec.
I then ran the boat with a fuel carb cleaning additive for about an hour at various speeds.
Finally using a timing light I set the low & high speed timing and idle speed.
The motor now fires up from cold only needing the choke once. I normally let it warm up at a high idle (1200 rpm) while I load the kids and their water toys and by the time I cast off the motor will idle smoothly at 800 rpm.
It has made a big difference to our tubing and water skiing as before the motor sometimes would not idle or required the fast idle to start.

Hope this helps, but the key ingredient is the manual, I bought the Yamaha one, again from my local dealer.
Good luck,
Peter
