where do you draw the line

I recently drove down to Fort Lauderdale from Ohio to pick up an outboard motor. While there I saw a new boat covered in that white plastic stuff they use for shipping and I was amazed to see it also had 4, 225hp engines mounted on the back. I have seen 3 and I thought that was a lot but 4, there has got to be something better and cheaper than that. whats the point? Or maybe I am just envious because my boat only has room for 1 115hp motor.

If 3 motors crap out, you still have a 225 "kicker" to make it home on! :p

Maybe that boat comes from South Africa, they make them down here with 4 large motors on, 3 engines is strange for me .... here you either get, 1, 2 or 4 never 3 ... lol @ studlymandingo, you make a good point ..... people that own these boats normally need to get away very quick, the only people down here that has those boats are poachers .... I know a couple :)

Drug runners and the Fed's that chase them have endless supplies of $$$ to feed four engines.

Anyone ever seen or seen pix of the US Customs gas turbine pursuit boat? Maybe it is secret. Faster than a Cigarette with 4 blown hemis. I wondered at the time if that is what got the maker guy (don't remember his name) murdered.

Reminds one quickly of the Gold Cup racers.

A friend of mine bought a confiscated drug boat from the government. From the outside it looked like any other GFBL, just without any hull graphics. But inside it featured extra "storage". And no stringers! As it was built with the assumption of making only one run. Throwaway GFBL.

Kelly Cook

Talk about money...heres four 275 Merc verados on a beautiful off shore fishing boat. Each of those verados cost over $20,000 a piece too.. But come on is 1100 h.p really enough.. :p
The whole rear end of my boat would be under the water with 1 of those big honkers on it. I sure wouldn't want to feed all of those horses at todays prices!

Re: where do you draw the line

fake pic guys. cover up the two to the right and pic looks just fine.

but with today's fuel efficient and ever shrinking outboards, multiples are proving to be great for larger offshore boats.

boating mag's boat of the year went to a 40'+ intrepid with four 250's on the back. the thing was fast as hell, very efficient, quiet, and no bad diesel odor.

i got the picture from this article over at screamandfly.com, a site deticated mostly to Mercury V-6 outboards. IMO this pic is not fake as screamandfly is a very legit website as are the article writers. scream and fly article

Re: where do you draw the line

thats beacuse the two engines on the right are trimmed up alittle more than the other two making the lower part on the engines look bigger...
