I have a restored classic wooden boat (1961 Merrell) that I want to insure. My agent (Farmers insurance) does not want to fool with it and Progessive won't touch it becouse of the wooden haul. It's worth around $4,000. What insurance are you guys using?

Ask around for the company Hagerty They like older boats and older cars. They will also do wooden hull boats. You can Write the policy at agreed value and also actual cash value. But you must have it appraised and have a marine survey dun.

I do sell Insurance for a living and would highly recomend them. You can check them out for yourself there web site

www.hagerty.com

I once again not trying to solicet I am just trying to help a fellow boater.

I think I read in another forum that State Farm also insures older boats for up to $5,000 at about $100 a year. I can't quite remember where I read it, I'll try and dig it up.

I have it with GEICO with its Ski-Safe affiliate. Not sure about classic boats. Call them.

I have INAMAR recreational marine insurance. I shopped around. IMHO, they had good coverage at a fair price. They specialize in marine insurance.

I never filed a claim but the insurance broker I used has filed claims for other customers covered by INAMAR and has never had a problem with payment. You can buy policies directly through them if you don't have a local agent.

Mine's with National Marine Underwriters. I have an older boat and am new to boating, so I had trouble with insurance, too. But no problems with these guys yet (though haven't had to file anything yet either). Went through American Family Home Insurance Company.

I have my '78 Crestliner (ok, so it's not a classic, but it is somewhat irregular) insured with them on an agreed-value policy. It was easy and affordable. Never had to file a claim (knock on wood), though.
