Where can you ski around Boston Harbor?

I want to take my teenage son skiing who has never skied before and keep my 25-ft boat near the Gas Tank in Dorchester. Maybe behind Thomson Island at high tide? I don't think I have ever seen anyone skiing anywhere around Boston harbor.

Thanks,

Hey someone else from Boston on the forums! :)

We live in Braintree and we launch at the Braintree Yacht Club on the Fore River. Just down the river a bit it opens up into a large cove that's great for watersports at high to mid tide. Do you know where the Bridge Street bridge is, the one next to the USS Salem? Go under that and you'll be in the river, just around the corner is the cove. You could look it up on Google Maps. It's usually very quiet, but it isn't necessarily pretty, there's a lot of industry around the river. Also, at high tide it's only about 8 or 9 feet deep, at low tide the max depth you're gonna see is 3 feet in the cove.

Another option is the Weymouth Back River. I don't know if you would want to use that, however, because it is quite a long trip in from the Harbor to where you would be able to ski in the river.

Those are nice quiet areas that would be good for a first time skier, you could try around Grape and Slate Islands, but there's always so much traffic in the channel near by.

Hi - thanks, I?ll check these spots out next summer. The cove in the Fore River looks like a good place to start.

How far up the Back River do you go to ski? I headed over there once with the skis but was afraid to try it. I didn't go past Hewitts cove - there was a lot of traffic that day.

We've never actually skied in it, but I have seen people tubing there and we've zoomed around in it a bit. You go past the Weymouth boat ramp and under the bridge. Once your under the bridge, you idle along for a minute or two and then it opens up into a cove. Just be careful, I think that cove is even more shallow than Fore River.

Hey, the water has warmed up since this thread started. So is there anywhere else you can go? I launch in Medford myself, but I could make it to quincy bay easy enough? Or even that stretch right at the end of runway 22 at logan. Although it's almost always pretty choppy there. Any other ideas? The closest freshwater skiing I've been able to find is that triple lake in Natick.
