where can i add a tell tail?

i have a link to adding a tell tail on larger older johnson engines 70hp and over i have a 1973 20hp johnson where would i tap into the engine to add a tell tail? i would like to do this on a removable part as i dont want to ruin the block

Find the "Engine Frequently Asked Questions" board in the "Repair and Maintenance " index.

About 1/3 of the way down on the first page you will find an item that may give you some pointers.

You could tap the cylinder head as shown in the thread. I would use the OEM fitting though.

The area that the fitting that is shown in the picture enters is the water passage. You tap it for a tell-tale, overboard indicator or whatever they call it this month. It lets you know that the waterpump is functioning.

Since 1979, virtually every water cooled outboard motor made has had a tell-tale.

Very good idea.
I have had a motor over heat due to blocked intake (weed).
I like the way you have drilled the head to only just break into water jacket,and the
fitting to keep the water off the block.
I think this will be the next job on my motors.
