I've been out three times now and running of Point Abino to the east at all depths. Haven't graphed any accept a few muskies. Drowning worms is a serious crime! Any ideas, I'm getting hungry.

They just finished running up river to spawn so its going to be hard to find them on the lake. I would start around river opening working into the lake. Try to find water temps about 50-60 degrees, they should be active in that temp range the depth will very. Good luck.

They were hitting good at the mouth of the Cuyahoga river in about 38ft. of water this week.

Re: Where are the lake Erie walleyes?

We did alright on the Ohio Michigan line this morning trolling in 12' to 14' of water. My partner and I was only out there for five hours we got nine keepers had four throw backs that were to small and lost two at the boat a few nice perch and three big sheep head. we headed back in at 11am. the best bite was early in the morning. We are going back out in the morning to try it again. We are going to start in that same depth and start working out deeper to see if we can find better numbers of fish. I"ll try to post the days results when we get back in.

I think I'm out too far and too deep. Running at 20' on the riggers and 35 on the dipsys. in 50 ' water. Got any extra fillets???? i'm craving some Walleye:D:D:D To windy on my side again. Keep me informed if you can. Are you dragging worms or plugs?

Re: Where are the lake Erie walleyes?

mars,

You're definitely out too deep for this time of year. I fish out of Rose Harbor Marina which is slightly south of Bolles Harbor. Went out last weekend, got a few nice keepers in 22-24' of water. Followed the boat pack this morning out to about 24' of water, and only managed 1. Listening to the radio this morning, everyone was slow. The people fishing north of us from the mouth of the detroit river to Fermi were doing a little better, but it seems they are scattered right now. The next 2-3 weeks should see things heat up, and after that its a run to Ohio waters to pick them up. Good Luck out there, would love to hear some updates from other Lake Erie people.

I usually fish Lake Ontario for the salmon / trout till things heat up on Erie but this year I thought I'd go out early. Seems I'm using my summer tactics. What's your favorite tackle (lure) for walleye. Mine is a floresent lime green Ripplin' Redfin with a white belly. It always produces when the bites on.

I usually troll Dipsy's or bottom bouncers with crawler harnesses behind them. That what I've been catching the majority of my fish on the past few seasons. It used to be that I only trolled Hot n Tots and could bring home a limit no problem with them. A lot of people use dipsy's and jets with spoons behind them, but I don't have jets or many spoons. Soon as I start working 40 again ( I'm on 32's right now) I'll get some spoons and try them out.

How far behind the dipseys do you run your harnesses? 18-36" inch snells? Just wondering- that's what I have been doing but have wondered about leader length. I also usually run crawler harnesses on dipseys fairly close to the bottom- have you had luck using them as mid-depth lures for suspended fish?

Thanks

They do migrate the lake - from our location in Cleveland, Ohio they start out west from Sandusky and move East to Geneva. The water temp is a good indicator -- the bit starts around 52? -- but since we have been having such cold weather lately - the bite has been pretty good.

Spring trolling in this area includes harnesses (although there are the guys that love meat only programs) and moves into the scorpions at slightly faster speeds and then the stingers around 2mph. Some guys were fishing very shallow two weeks ago (about 80' back)

For good walleye/steelhead reports from our side of town - take a look at walleye central dot com and ohiogamefishing dot com. There are a lot of nice setups to try from those forums - and guys who would love to help you fill your freezer.

fish on.

Re: Where are the lake Erie walleyes?

Mark VT, I usually run my harnesses about 24-36 inches behind my dipsy's. I run the small harnesses that are about 6 inches long and make up a leader to place between the two. I usually don't measure and kind of eye it.

On a side note, me and a buddy were out on friday, lines in the water at 7 am. Trolled all over the place and picked up about 16 total. had several throw backs, and lost one at the boat, but ended the day with 9 keepers between 20-24 inches. We worked the michigan/ohio line, and did really have to work for them. Others reported good success on spoons, but I've never ran them, and don't have many, and of course didn't have any on the boat.
