When to service a new motor?

Can anyone tell me when they would have a new motor serviced? It's a 60HP 4-stroke Merc with about 15 hours on it. (alwaysn freshwater) I'm a total motor moron, so I won't be doing anything myself (I have checked the oil several times). I want to protect my investment, so I'd rather go in a little early, than a little late...

Any suggestions?

THANKS in advance!

I'd think the owners manual would give you a clue. What do it say?

g'luck & c/6

hooty

I tend to use 10 hours as a break-in period, then change oil/filter and lower unit lube. Does your dealer have a break in service interval? Might be mandatory in your warranty.

How often does everyone change their impellers? I have heard every year..is that correct? Is it any easy change, the diagram in my repair book looks complicated with gaskets and stuff. If it looks ok and not worn...leave it alone? I have spent thousands on repairs because of someones lack of maintenence and i dont mind spending a hundred here and there.

OMC manual states the breakin period is 20hrs. Change lower unit oil, Re-torque heads to spes, change fuel filters, and there is a list for inspection and tightening bolts etc. As far as changing impellers every 100 hrs. or 3 years, unless you have been in the sand or mud.

After reading your posts, I went back and checked my manual AGAIN, but can only find where it talks about servicing most things every 100 hours, and some things every 300 hundered hours????????

I'm nervous now...
