Do you salt water folks replace it every year? Mine is only one year old and looks pretty rusty. Its a mix of the local fresh water lake and the North Carolina coast.

No . . . I have run the same thermostat in salt water for many years. So, I would only change it if you are having a cooling problem and have good evidence that it is thermostat related.

It might just be me and my experiences, but of the many cooling problems that I have experienced over the years, it has not been the thermostat. Plenty of other things to go wrong with the cooling system.

Buy a replacement thermostat, then remove your old one to inspect....then check/clean/replace, as required....then you'll know what you've got and stop thinking about it.....

I agree with tpenfield...keep a spare and use the original until you have a problem...not a lot that can really go wrong with them...you can always remove it to get home if you had a failure and no spare...

Seriuosly. you pulled the t/stat and did not replace it. What a waste of time and money, and posting.
