When stator fails will there be visual indication?

I tested my two AC leads and neither registered anything on the OHM scale (should read 0.5 - 1.0) and the ground test failed too. I'm sure its shot, but is there any visual indications that would confirm it? I hate to drop the cash for a new stator only to find I made an error and the stator was not the problem.

Lastly, while removing the flywheel it went crooked and the stator fingers gouged into the inner flywheel leaving a few gouges. It was soft material, unlike a magnet. Any harm done? Should the magnets be replaced while the flywheel is off (can they be replaced?)

Thank you!

Sometimes there is visual damage, other times there is not.

If the magnets are still firmly attached, they should be ok.
