when is the best time to fish boat docks for bass ?

I live in Missouri and was wondering what everyone's thoughts on when is the best time to fish boat docks for bass and what do you guys suggest flipping ?

Boat docks will hold bass almost 365 days of the year providing you do not live where the waters freeze over or the lakes are very deep. In that case they may leave those areas in the very hot months or the very cold months.<br /><br />Nearly anything will work around a dock, but I generaly like plastics of some kind, or jigs.<br /><br />Be carefull, be kind, dont hook boat covers and canvases.

Boat docks are good just about anytime. Especially when the sun is directly overhead. I dont like fishing them when the water is especially clear, I havent had much good luck around them at that time. Not only bass, but crappie like boat docks too.

When the water is wet. Stay away at other times.

Ever tried dock shooting? Only works with a spinning reel - you hold your lure and bend the rod down, then release the lure & line almost simultaneously.<br /><br />Here's an illustration from a 1954 edition of Popular Mechanics Outdoor Sports manual. <br /><br />

Lots of luck on spinner baits. That for me has been the highest producer. I am not really that good at picking colors for the conditions so I generally use yellow body with green or orange skirts and a white split tail plastic wiggler on the hook. That bait will also catch northerns, big sunnies, crappies, etc..<br /><br />I usually cast past the dock and retrieve as close to the dock as I can get. If close enough I will try to flick it under.
