Hello everyone

My boat is 7 years old and used to be in saltwater quite often. It is I/0 454 Mercrusier motor.

I heard it said that when the exhaust manifold or riser begins to leak (internally) that the water can actually enter the engine cylinders and do major damage. So how would I know when to replace them before damage is done to my engine. Or is the above incorrect.

Thanks in advance.

*******Don,t worry be happy :) *******

Seven years in saltwater..I would replace them NOW! Yes you can do damage to the engine.

Or you could remove them and have them pressure checked for leaks.

Normal life for them in saltwater is 4-6 years. Lifespan in freshwater up to 20 years.
