I have several gouges in the gelcoat. No fabric is showing, so I assume it's just the gelcoat, however, the surface is black, and the gouge is white, does that mean it's beyond the gelcoat?

Hit a rock last year and I can definitely see fabric on the chine that took the hit. Fabric is intact and still hard. Can I gelcoat over this, or do I need more extensive repairs?

Which kits are recommended, or should I stay away from?

Thanks!
Brian Atkins
1988 Baja Sunsport 186/Yamaha ProV 150 (zoom zoom)

Could most likely gel coat both, if it is a trailer boat.
In a better world, the part where you can see the fiber needs to be at least sealed with resin, before you gel coat it. That is unless there is more structural (cracks) damage.
Polyester resin with on a Q tip would apply enough to seal it. Coat the fibers, fill up the gouge.
Good Luck!
