When did Evinrudes improve their mileage ?

Just bought a 1991 V4 115HP Crossflow and heard of the elder Evinrudes V4´s high gas comsumption, and later improvements. This motor has same bore/stroke as far as I can see as many older ones.<br /><br />When did the design change and start saving some fuel ? Is my 1991 more economic than the 70´ties ?<br /><br />I guess it depends a lot of boat/prop - is came with a sst Solas propeller, but I have to change pitch. Will a sst save more gas than aluminium ?

Thanks Dhadley, but are there no improvements to the models during all these years - or is it just same compression, block, carb and ignition, intake and exhaust timing, since CDI appeared.

The real fuel saving is only with the fuel injected motors. The Stainless might give you up to 2 mph and tiny fuel savings but often only if can raise motor a little
