wheel bearing size

OK, I read the sticky by Silvertip regarding wheel bearing sizes. I'm looking for the collective experience of the group here, I have a 15' Manatee trihull bowrider with 65hp Johnson, and break down trailer (unknown brand). Any guesses if I should go with the 1", or 1 1/16" bearing set? Just buy both and return the one not used? The trailer is 30 miles away, and I'm at work. I have a store around the corner that has the bearings in stock, so I'd like to get them while in town. Thanks!

Re: wheel bearing size

I was in the same scenario as you with a trailer I had with drop axle spindles. I just bought two sets with two different sizes, installed the set that fit and returned the unused set. The only difference that might exist is that I bought mine from a trailer store (utility, travel tralers etc...). I am not sure if a marina would take back bearings that are out of the box like these guys did. Might want to check on that first.

buying both is the best bet. I can check the stamped part number on the old bearings before I take anything out of the packages to see which set I need...

Thats always a good plan.
Go with more than you need and you never have to make a second trip.

actually ensures a second trip if I want my money back, but then at least I get the job done when I want it done!

I meant a second trip to the trailer, as its 30 miles away and the parts store is around the corner.

Re: wheel bearing size

I would bet it is NOT a 1 inch bearing. Most trailers in size range will use 1-1/16 inch inner and out bearings. A 3000 - 3500# trailer will have a 1-1/16 outer and 1-3/8 inner bearing.
