What do you use? I am trying to determine what is reducing the life of mine. Using Pennzoil Marine from the grease gun. Think it is time to change with the new set of bearings I will install.

Re: Wheel Bearing Grease

If you are having wheel bearing problems, it may not be the grease -- it may be improper adjustment. A properly adjusted tapered roller bearing should have just a very slight amount of clearance or call it "slop" if you will. If you place your hands at the top and bottom, or front and back of the wheel and then rock it toward your body, you should feel an ever so slight amount of slop. Too tight or too loose causes wear.

I Agree.......

I Doubt it's the Choice of Grease..........
The stuff you used is a Good Choice............

It Could be the preload, or how much weight are you hauling ??

How are you accessing that you Need New Bearings ???

Wanted a fresh set, and saving the old ones for possible on road disasters. Nothing really shows wear. Did have a too tight axle nut last summer, no apparent damage, but I hate to have an issue on I80 this summer.

Only way to tell, is to pull then out and look at the races with a magnifier, if you see little indentations or pits they are going bad, also check the rollers in the cages for the same thing. Pre load is important, they have a good article on it over at:
www.championtrailers.com
don't forget if you are going to do bearings you have to change the races in the drums or hubs too.
I love the spindle lube axle I got from them, pull out the rubber plug and grease until old grease comes out, no worry about overpressurizing it.
