I was shocked last week to see how plugged up the water passages are in my 1994 9.9 suzuki i'm rebuilding. i have diligently flushed that motor with fresh water every time it's used. has anyone got anything to say, good or bad, about "SALT AWAY" or any other salt disolving product. it's very expensive, but so are outboards. i'll start using it if it really works. thanks for your thoughts!!!

If the salt water or the salt is washed away with fresh water before it is allowed to dry, the washing process is fairly effective. The problem starts when the salt is allowed to dry, which doesn't take long. Once the salt has dried if is much more difficult to remove. Salt Away and similar products dissolve the dried salt making it easier to wash away. I've only used Salt Away for about 6 months now but I'm really happy with the results. I use it to rinse everything - boat, motor & trailer. It is expensive but compared to corrosion problems it's cheap.

Just my opinion - GOOD LUCK!

I've never used SALTAWAY, but I've found that I can keep my boat (and inside the motor) clean by hooking my flush hose to my garage sink, and mixing the hot and cold water 50/50.

the water is a little over 100 degrees, but I only run my motor flusher for a short period, and it really looks good inside the engine when I pop a thermostat out to check thing out. I used to have buildup problems inside the engine before I started doing this, since I normally drive about an hour when leaving the saltwater to get home.

2 more cents worth, hope it helps.......
