Whats up with my tire?

While getting my boat ready to take out tomorow, I noticed one of the tires on the trailer looked low. I put air in the tire and it all leaked out, but it didn't go flat, just to the point where it looked low, when I squeeze(sp) it with my hand I can hear air come out.<br /><br />I just looked up and called every place I know of who sells there tires and they all closed at five.<br /><br />What is wrong with this thing, comething with the seal? <br />Can I fix it myself tonight and pull it tomorow? Since it still a bit of air, can I tow it tomorow?

For about one block, till it overheats and comes off the rim in shreds. Did you put a pressure guage on it? If you can squeeze it and hear air, it is FLAT. <br /><br />Don't you have a Walmart close at hand? They're open forever.

Take the tire off, fill it with air, then find out where the leak is. If you can't see a nail or something, nor feel the air coming out as you rotate the tire, then either dunk it in a tub of water or wipe some soapy water on it and look for bubbles. If you find a nail or leaky valve or if the bead seal has somehow come loose, any full service gas station can probably fix it for you. If it's unrepairable, at least you'll already have the wheel off .

The boat wasn't on the trailer when I first noticed this, when I loaded the boat on the rim hit the street, so it was flat.<br /><br />I plan on takeing the boat out tomorow morning.<br /><br />The only spare I have is a bigger tire and rim then with I use on this trailer, but the lugs are the same and it fit on my hub, all I had to do was "customize" my fender a bit <br /><br />My question is, will I be able to use this trailer with two different size tires? <br /><br />Smaller tire:<br /> http://img73.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/Revenge/DSCF0192.jpg <br />Bigger tire:<br /> http://img73.photobucket.com/albums/v222/ryanwhaler/Revenge/DSCF0193.jpg

Ryan,<br /><br />You can use the trailer that way. It will look a little funky, but will tow OK. It's pretty light.<br /><br />I believe your tire was only leaking down to the point where the rubber sealed itself. Any more presure and it would leak to that point and stop.<br /><br />One tire looks like a 4.80 X 8.0 and the other (bigger) looks like a 5.30.<br /><br />It looks like you have the clearance to put 12" tires under the fenders. I would do that. They'll last longer and be less stressful on the bearings.

Dunking the whole shabang in a tub is a good idea, because sometimes the leak comes THROUGH the metal rim due to tiny rusted through holes. (Been there.)

I wa putting air in it, but I didn't have the compressor set high enough, so it wasn't pumping it fast enough to make a seal.

I don't want to enter a war between you two, just give advice.RyanT, if you can put a tube in it, you can probably continue to run the same tire. Otherwise, a strap-wrench or ratchet strap will bulge out the tire, making it easier to make the tire beads more prone to sealing the tire to the rim. Hope it helps. I won't hijack this tread, but I hope you set your differences aside. Ryan T is a younger guy and learning but I recall myself at that age and I was very quick to argue against anybodys advice.
