What's this thing on my waterski?

Can anyone identify the purpose of the little yellow rubber button screwed into the top of this waterski? It is embossed with the same name as the ski (Maherajah) so I assume it's original or at least intended to be there.

My best guess is it's from some type of beginner attachment meant to be mated up with a second ski. Something to hold the skis at an ideal distance apart. Don't know for sure as I know little about water skis.

I bought this used slalom waterski from a local classified site. Beautiful older wooden ski in excellent condition. For $10 I figured it would be great to hang on the cottage wall if it doesn't ski well. An impressive piece of woodworking.

Thanks!

It could be to attach another one to it, they weren't really designed as a trainer type ski, more a competition ski that didn't come cheap. Im not sure if they even came in pairs, I have only ever seen slalom models. By the way maha's used to be pretty much the best ski money could buy bar none. Very well made and way ahead of their time as far as design was concerned. I have one hanging on my wall because they are getting tougher and tougher to find in good condition. Google them and see what they are making these days you might be very surprised at what the new ones cost and what some of the old ones are worth. You could ski on it but the bindings are not all that they were great 30+ years ago but the bindings on current skiis are so much better than those old things. Another very good looking wood ski was the connely wood hook they were all hand laid wood with no two exactly the same, beautiful skiis but also getting tough to find. Hang on to it whatever you decide to do with it, like I said all original mahas are getting pretty collectable these days.

Problem solved.

The yellow button prevents the binding toepiece from sliding too far forward and coming free from its track. Pretty obvious when you try to put the ski on.
