2004 Mercruiser v6 LH 190hp 2bl carb. to a velvet trans inboard. There is a hole in the flywheel housing....starter? The starter is on the bottom under the manifold. Just acquired boat and it's winterized but I was "checking things out and noticed this. Normal? I would think there is a cover plate? Suggestions...

thanks

Yes that would be for the top mounted starter.

Being a V6, I don't believe that's a normal engine/trans combo from Mercruiser.. But I could be wrong on that.

Do you have the engine and trans serial numbers? It might help tell a story and maybe find a cover part number.

Couple of things. The aft mounted electric fuel pump was a good idea. Cant imagine changing spark plugs, manifolds or a starter without pulling the engine.
If I did have to pull the engine I would install a inboard starter, aft entry .A lot easier to get to. You need a inboard flywheel with the ring gear mounted aft and a counter rotating starter for the standard rotation motor. Hard to imagine even installing a motor is such a tight space.

It looks like an access port in the left of the picture. Maybe there's one on the right also, for changing the spark plugs.:)
