What's my serial number?

I'm looking for my serial number but I'm unable to see it. I was able to to pull the Quicksilver Repower plate off the motor. The S/N on the plate reads RC91000201. Is there a phone number where someone can tell me the block number. I'm pretty sure the S/N's for that engine starts at OLO10029, Mercruiser has not been much help with any information. I've had problems with my motor unable to exceed 2000 RPM's while under load and I have tried many things to resolve the problem.

Re: What's my serial number?

2002 7.4 454 merc mag hoz mpi 385 hp w/bravo 3. In summary I've:
CHANGED the fuel filter, cap, rotor, coil, plugs and wires.
CHECKED voltage from the alternator, and leads to the fuel pump.
SWITCHED the fuel pick up on the gas tank, the fuel source with a Gerry can, all the visible relays and ECM with the good motor. Ran the diagnostic computer on the motor which showed no fault but did indicate a timing issue. Put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail and showed it fluctuating but did not drop when approaching 2000 RPMs. I have not changed was the coil pickup and the module nor have I checked the injectors. I guess it possible for sediment in the fuel system, either in the pump, regulator or injectors. Last wked I check the plugs, and most of them have a good amount on oil on them. I plan on doing a compression check Sat before putting the cover on.

So is the engine a repower at one time?

Your RC9#'s are not a engine serial number, And your OLO10029 number is an invalid serial number from mercruiser.

Try looking for a 0L # (for example) just above the engine starter, It should be riveted to a metal tag on the side of the enging.

2002 7.4 454 merc mag hoz mpi 385 hp w/bravo
It looks like you already know what engine you have, But to order parts you still will need to find your engine serial number to order the parts correctly.

Good luck with it.:)

Re: What's my serial number?

The RC number came off the Quicksilver Repower metal plate that I took off the middle of the block on the left side. It has other information pressed into it. I though that if so much effort went into the printing of this tag, that a data base with (at lease) the serial number on it would be kept somewhere. Other info,
Part No. 807744R5
** O.S. 030 IN
Main Brgs. 010 IN
Thrust Width STD
Rod Brgs. 010 IN
Date 03/19/2001
S/N RC91000201
When I bought the boat in 2003, the dealer installed these two motors which they said Mercruiser had given them the yr before, which originally where recalled and fixed and had less then 20 hrs on them. At that time I had called Mercruiser and they only told me that service manual 23 was needed. According to that manual this motor is the sterndrive model w/power steering with a S/N starting at 0L010029 & up. I tried many times to look for the S/N without success because of in accessibility.

Sorry, But I can not find any info using your S/N RC91000201 with merc.

To help give you an idea of where the serial number tag is normally found, Open this link below, click on the sterndrive engine to the right, Then click on the *Serial number* under engine information.

On the outside of the boat there might be two serial numbers for the drive and transom assembly as well?

Part number 807744R5 was your new engine long block (LB 454-RM 96-02) from merc.

This link should be your engine parts though.

Good luck with it.

Re: What's my serial number?

The SN you posted, OLO10029, has the letter O in two places, put a number zero 0 in it's place and your engine is a 454 MAG MPI Bravo (Gen VI). Model number 4652027LS.

Sorry, But I can't not find any info using your S/N RC91000201 with merc.

Call Merc, they are the ONLY ones that can use that number.

Re: What's my serial number?

Thanks for the info, so if I wanted to find out if there were any service bulletins or recalls that might be related to my problem I would use the model number 4652027LS or the part number LB 454-RM 96-02? This weekend before I put the winter cover on I plan on doing a compression test which I found a "How to" in the service manual. I really hope it's not a ring or valve or spring or maybe a head gasket. Having all the new spark plugs I recently installed revealing fresh oil on them makes me wonder what's going on. I only have 300 hours on the motors.

Re: What's my serial number?

I did a compression test over the wked and I wanted to post the results with the hopes of someone might be able to help me decipher them. Should I post it here or start a new posting specific to that?

Re: What's my serial number?

I ran a compression test on the motor but I didn?t know that I should have started it and let it warm up before doing it. I read the service manual and followed it by opening the throttle, removing all the plugs and running a test first dry, then add 3 squirts of oil to the cylinder and repeat. The psi should be between 100 and 150 with the lowest not less than 70% of the highest and the gauge should rise in three increments
---------DRY-----WET------------DRY---WET
#1 Cyl----75------85-----Cyl#2---75----100--first increment
--------- 100----- 115------------100-- 110---second
--------- 125------140------------118---125--Final reading

#3----- 50---- 60--------------#4---- 50---75
-------- 65---- 75---------------------75 100
-------- 82---- 82---------------------115 125

#5----- 65------ 75-------#6---75--- 75
--------- 85------ 75-------------100 110
----------102-----118----------- 118 125

#7------ 65------ 75------ #8----95---75
--------- 80------ 95-------------105---105
--------- 95------ 102------------125---125
A few weeks ago when I though I fixed the motor, I changed the wires and took the boat out for a test, the motor achieved 3600 rpm for a minute before bogging out as I throttle up but it hasn?t gone over 2000 rpms since. My auto mechanic saw the numbers and suspects either a sticking valve or a slightly blown head gasket. The compression ratio is suppose to be 8.6-1

270 hour on the motors, you mean my #3 cylinder should be the highest pressure?

Re: What's my serial number?

Nope,... #1 is at 140psi,...

140 should be the Lowest # of the 8...

#3, 'n #7 are Dead cylinders... That's just too low to build Any power...
