What's my motor?

Bought an old Johnson (I'm fairly sure so far!) but am having trouble finding out exactly what it is.

Only number which looks like an engine number is on a small (1 inch) circle with the Johnson "Winged horse" logo above it.
It is a little hard to see with layers of paint over it but is either:

1420357 or D420357 or maybe 0420357.......

The carb has strange (to me anyway) air filters attached, one each side looking like small motorcycle silencers (mufflers) pointing backwards. The bottom of the float bowl is glass.

Sorry to bother you guys, but I've spent most of the day on this and got nowhere!

Can take pics if that would help.

Thanks again.
Ken.

Re: What's my motor?

Hi Ken
I am not sure but it sounds like you may have a 10hp Johnson. The silencers you describe are just that, air silencers. They do not filter anything, nor do they need to be serviced, unless plugged by rodents etc. To determine exactly what motor you have we will need the model #. Look for a plate on the transome clamp. Model# should start with QD.May also be CD.

Re: What's my motor?

Thanks Alcan.

It does look to be about 10 - 15 hp.

I've searched all over for a plate with a serial number but it seems to have gone missing. I'll have another good look tomorrow, but it's dark over here now.

If it's any help, there are mixture controls (high and low speed) for the carb on the front.
