There's supposed to be gas in there right?

So, I'm removing the fuel tank in my project boat (theft recovery Crestliner) and find the tank was 1/2 full. No problem, I'll rig up a fuel pump and fill up 5 gallon fuel cans, then dump a bit of the old fuel in the truck at each fill up. Seems like a good plan as this is how I have got rid of old fuel in the past...

After dumping 1 gallon in the truck's tank I figured I could probably get away with 2 gallons, so I proceed to put in another gallon. Right after I finished dumping in the second gallon I get this bright idea that I should probably see if the stuff in the tank would burn,,, see where I'm going with this...

As I dumped a bit out of the fuel jug onto a stick it didn't look like fuel,,, or burn like fuel... Actually, it didn't soak into the wood well just like water does and didn't burn,,, just like water doesn't

Found out the gas tank's contents were about 90% water with just a dash of fuel for color and taste :D I attribute this to the dirt bag thieves that shredded the boat before I got it.

Oh yeah, and getting 2 gallons of water out of the gas tank of a fuel injected engine was no fun task

BTW,,, HEET will not soak up 2 gallons of water...

I doubt it,,, unless the thieves had a kegger while ripping apart the boat. Must have pumped 15 gallons of water out of the tank,,, that would be one loooooong whizz :D

And yes, it was a real PITA getting it out, 10' hose connected to the fuel rail and squirt bottle dripping fuel into the throttle body to keep the engine running and fuel pump pumping water out.

A hose wouldn't go into the tank, truck's pump wouldn't run unless the engine was running and external pump wouldn't pull through the truck's pump, what a cluster

You could have just jumped, or hot wired, the fuel pump realy with a 12V switched hot wire to your Battery.

Yes, I have had to pump a tank before.
