Hi Friends,
I have owned my boat for over a year and it remains nameless. Any suggestions on coming up with a name? Also, what's the big deal about naming the boat anyway? I don't see cars with names...

The only boats that have to be named are documented vessels, this is because they display no reg #'s and the name is the only identifier.

My vehicles and other toys always have names. It personalizes them.

Current vehicle ('99 ML430) is "Blue Too" because she replaced "Ole Blue".

Tractor ('97 Kubota B-2150) is "Big Orange" because he is small and orange.

Last boat ('85 Boston Whaler Striper 15) was "Red Sky" because she was this sailor's delight.

Why not call it 'Farm Girl" . . . that's kinda cute or even "Sanford Farm Girl"

Personalizes it to your world and the things you like. Just like why you picked that name for yourself here at the forum.

Get a new rig and it's Farm Girl II

Keep working your way up and some day on your new 50 footer it could be like "Farm Girl 5". . .

If you don't name them how are you going to remember all those fun times you had on which boat . . . Name it and you could just refer to say Farm Girl III?

Yep, you gotta name her! You gotta dream big :D

The family place up by the lake in the woods is called "Far and Away"

It's awfully tempting to buy a big block powerboat to moor under that sign and call it "Hell and Gone"

:D

welcome aboard!

You name a boat to get a cool logo!!!!!! and show it off... I have no shame.

we are renaming ours this year -- the guy that owned it before us named it after.... himself: rondovous. yuck.

My best half had a boat prior called 'check your fly' so we're now on II and going to perform the renaming ritual to get it right.

Welcome aboard Sanford Girl.

Naming a boat is fun and entertaining but personal. You don't have to name it if you don't want to.

We call ours the "Blue Crabber" (hence my SN) because we do most of our boating in the Chesapeake Bay, the boat is white and blue (our favorite boat colors) and we love to go crabbing for Marylands famous blue crabs. So my wife came up with Blue Crabber. Although we haven't put it on the boat yet, still deciding if we want to or not.

We called our old boat the snapping turtle or turtle. It was an old trihull that was way underpowered and couldn't get on plane with more than 2 people on it. So it was the slowest boat on the water it seemed, hence the name, turtle. It got the snapping part when a friend dove off the side of the boat and hit the windshield with his knee leaving a nice chunk of skin behind.

So, have fun and name it if you want to! If you do, we want to hear what you decided. :D

My wife and I will be naming ours and have spent alot of time talking about different names even though we haven't picked one yet. I think she will be disappointed to lose the conversation topic when we actually decide.

Re: What's in a name?

When I received a small inheiretence my choice of names was easy. My parents always said "Life is Good" no matter how their's was at the time. So I gave them a little Irish rendition of their favorite phrase.
Always remember 'Beatha Maithe"...cause it is! ;)
