What's growing on my outdrive?

Any marine biologists?

I just repainted this out drive with Rustoleum Pro and spent the last 4 days on the Allegheny river.

Found this on the drive. It comes off easily enough with your finger but does leave a trace it was there, and it seems to be attracted to the magnesium anodes and other metal. It sort of looks like fish eggs, and it faintly stinks like them too.

Any ideas what this is and how I can prevent it (besides repainting with antifouling paint).

Did you sand it to bare metal and not zinc chromate it? Do you leave it in the water? I'll be up at Milvale Marina Sat late morning early afternoon if you would like me to look at it. The Carp will bang against the drives or hull to lay eggs. There orangeish in color.

I went to bare metal and used 2K epoxy primer then the Rustoleum. I know it looks like pitting but that's just the picture, spit and a rag takes it off (right now anyway).

It was in the water for 4 days only. It is like crusty clumps of sesame seed sized brown orange things. In the last picture, it is only that side of the anode they are under too, other side is clean.

Probably can't make it out this weekend (other mechanical problems) but thanks.
