I've got a 35 Evinrude that's been sitting for 3-4 years. I know little about outboards but I heard you should replace the impeller annually. I know where it is but what is its purpose?

JWB,the impeller is part of the water pmp,it provides the cooling water for your engine.

Thanks Master Chief... Should it be changed annually? I understand kits run around $30.00.

JW,a lot of people reccomend annual, but unless you run in water where you run into a lot of sand or you let it sit a lot I don,t think so.Just be aware of the fact that it is a small rubber impeller, and sand will wear it fast.Test it freqently on hose end muffler.Get a feel for how much water is coming out of weeper with new pmp,so you can detect a problem before hand.Just my 2cents.

Good advice master Chief. Thanks, have a good week end. I'm now going to try the "Smilies" for the first time.
