What's a good over night marinade? Dry rub? I cant ever remember baking a ham before. Thanks and be safe guys, lotsa drinking goin on!!

Use Sprite, Gingerale, or Coca-Cola as a base, it will make your ham very moist and yummy. I will add a little brown sugar to the mix and some pineapple along with the sprite and let is soak in that. Then pop it all in the oven and let it cook like that also.

It was always honey, brown sugar and pineapple with a dozen or so whole cloves poked in for cooking and removed for eating. Recently I Googled it and found several recipes that called for orange juice instead of pineapple.

I do use coke classic when I cook a cured country ham so it ought to work for a fresh ham also.

Since a ham is cured and smoked your basically heating it up.
If the ham you got was one of those they left the skin on for that one side Delicious crackle, cross hatch the skin before you cook it and use the brown sugar/honey/cloves with pineapple for a traditional taste.

Brother in law got me into using apricot chutney as a spread after its sliced, MMMMMMMM

That's as good a marinade for ham as you'll get. If you like a little "heat" you can thrown in some ceyenne pepper powder-go easy!

Heat it SLOW, otherwise you'll burn the outside and the inside will be cold. Max, 220* oven. I've had good success putting them in my Green Egg and keeping the temp. about 200*. That way the outside gets a nice smokey flavor.

Or, just go with the old stand by: 50:1. One pint of TCW-3 rated outboard oil to six gallons of 87 octane unleaded gas. I don't recommend this for the grill. Flare ups can be ummm, shall we say-exciting!

I don't marinade mine, I cook it in a cooking bag, with a brown sugar/honey/mustard glaze, I mix the brown sugar, honey and mustard in a sauce pan, then heat until liquid, add a few cloves, then cross hatch the ham, place in the cooking bag, pour the hot liquid over it, then pop in the oven for a couple of hours.

Has been a hit in my family for over 20 years now, makes for a heck of a nice tasting ham.

OH, forgot about the mustard (thanks MTBG)

Mustard powder gives a little more heat/POW, grey poupon (SP?) mellower but creamy texture.
good old hot dog yellow mustard, have not tried it.

And do not skimp out on the pineapple wheels!!!!

I do something similar: Sprite or ginger ale, orange juice, brown sugar, a bit of cinnamon/clove/allspice/ginger, and the secret ingredient...a couple packets of unflavored gelatin (will make it "cling" when it cooks down, and results in a nice shiny glaze!). Note: if you use gelatin, don't use pineapple! It has enzymes that destroy proteins. If you can't find or don't want to use gelatin, sub in marmalade (or apricot jam, or apple butter, or what have you jam) for the OJ and cut back on the brown sugar; the pectin will do a similar job.

Yup, Mustard can provide a little heat-too. Great idea! Never thought of that. Thanks.

Besides, the TCW-3 leaves a really nasty aftertaste. Lasts for days.
