What years did Evinrude make the 28hp SPL?

I know Johnson has made these for many different years.<br /><br />Did Evinrude only make them from 88 to 89?<br /><br />I just bought a boat and it has this motor on it. I can't find the model # on it anywhere. It has a tag on the mount but it is not readable. The tag looks like it never had anything on it.<br /><br />Anybody know??<br />Want to find out so I can get a manual and a new prop. Maybe a new cowl as well.<br />Any help would be great!

Not sure about the years, but I also have a Johnson '89 28 HP in the Garage. Good Motors! Used mine for 10 years and bought a different one(Bigger). It still ran great the last time I used it and never let me down! Will look into the years. I have a Factory Manual if you need any important info.

Spline Drive from '86-96<br />Pin Drive from '51-'55 and '62-'64

Wkoch <br />Look on the Starboard (Right)Lower Side of the Cylinder Head. Should be a Silver Welch Plug(Freeze Plug Looking)with the Model and serial #. Post it and you will know what year you have.

Thanks to all for the info! I have been looking for anything on these things. I come to the board and get help immediately.<br /><br />I will look into this. The boat is stored 5 miles away so I will get to it on Friday.<br /><br />Thanks again

Found out this motor is a '87 evinrude SPL.<br /><br />Thanks for the help
