What years are the L.U. weak on 20 HP mercury's?

I remember hearing the lower units on the Mercury's are weak, does anyone remember the years to stay away from?

Hi,
I don't remember hearing that myself. Anytime you hit an imovable under water object something is going to give way. I like the mid to late 70's or the same in the mid to late 80's and newer for reasons other than the LU.
