E = Evinrude
6 = 6HP
R = Rope Start
CO = 1985 engine
B = Model Run
Iboats has both manuals and props for that engine. Have a look at the Helpful Links at the top of the page. Your local library may be an economical alternative for the manual, but they're useless for props.

The motor had some work on it new heads I think? It has a painted Sailmaster 8 cover on it. Could it have been easily upgraded to an 8 hp?

Sorry - I don't know anything about that engine. Try to find a quarter sized silver disk on the engine block itself that lists a model number and serial number. Mabey the transom clamp got replaced or something.
Somehow I doubt a head change can make a 6 an 8. That would imply a compression ratio increase of over 1/3.

Many covers are interchangable. I have a 40 Johnson, but the cover says 50 Evinrude. It was replaced by a previous owner after an accident.

Re: What year Sailmaster 8 hp?

As was pointed out, the hoods are interchangeable between several models in that era. The 4, 6, and 8 hp all used the same mold for the hoods.

The 6hp cannot easily be upgraded to 8hp, even though they use the same motor block. The front half of the crankcase is different to accomodate a larger intake manifold on the 8hp. They use different carbs, too, as the 8hp uses the 9.9hp carb.

Look for a nickel sized plug on the motor block that will have the model/serial number stamped in it. It should match the one you found on the tag on the clamps...

- Scott
