While out trolling one day, my 1987 Johnson 30hp hit the rocks. I lost the Muskie I was playing, my Golden Retriever decided to go in over the side and my fishing partner damn near had a fit, loosing his grip on the landing net. Thankfully, the net was a floating model. We managed to get the dog back in the boat and eventually things did sorta calmed down a bit. Our "Buddy Boat" towed us back to the dock, while we sat there taking grand verbal abuse from our so called friends.<br /><br />So now I am on the hunt for some hard parts. <br /><br />The forward gear and pinion were crunched out. The skeg isn't looking to great either but can be reused if need be. The model number is 30ELCU. Short shaft and electric start.<br /><br />I have heard that some yearlier model gears will fit my lower unit and work in my 1987 gear case but that these earlier cases them selves may be different and not fit my mid section. Could this wild story be true? Any ideas as to what years these units would be?<br /><br />In any event, which years of complete lower units will fit my engine and what various HP ratings would these units come off of? <br /><br />Thanks ....
