What Year is This Mercury ?

Recently purchased a Mercury 4cyl in line outboard serial no 871-6590. It was claimed to be 90hp but could be slightly smaller. Any ideas of age so I can get a manual.

You sure you read that serial number correctly ? If it was 9716590 you would have a 1993 90hp Merc. I can't locate anything with serial 8716590

Double checked to serial and it's clearly 871-6590. The engine cover has been re painted and I have managed to find traces of a '90' under it so it appears to be a 90hp. Any further ideas about its year? The previous owner said it was 1990 but would like it confirmed so I get the right manual.
