What year is this Merc?

I have what I was told was a 1976 150 hp inline 6 outboard but I haven't been able to match the serial number. The number I have right off the swivel bracket is 7067643. Appreciate any help in verifying the year. I even went to the Merc site for parts express and they ask you to input the serial number but it came as not found, thanks

I can't believe someone out there doesn't know what year this outboard is. It was suggested to me that it may have been built over seas and that's why the number starting with a 7, does anyone know of a site for oler merc's from overseas?. Thanks for your help with this one.

That number falls within a serial number group for 150 hp but my program tells me that 7067643 is not a valid number.<br />The fact that it falls into a grouping is good because thats how merc organizes their parts by serial # not year .<br />Keep us posted if you find out.

Schematic......that can't be it, it looks too easy and almost makes sense, although it's quite a coincidence!

Also...............the "7" at the beginning of your serial designates a Canadian number. Thats probably why you can't find it on the net. Phone a nearby Merc dealer. They'll confirm this.

Thanks, i forgot to mention that it is a thunderbolt 3 cylinder ,so why are the numbers different,and does it really matter,when you want to order parts and whatnot,don't want to end up with wrong parts.New to this only had boat a week.

USA serial # 5..........<br />Canada serial # 7........<br />Australian serial # 8......... <br />Belgium serial #9.............<br /><br />don't know why..

From their inception in 1939 through 1985 Mercury serialed their American built motors linearly, .ei 1001, 1002, 1003, 1004, etc. Not all serial numbers were used, as they would often allocate a block of serial numbers for a given model in a given year.<br /><br />When they started producting motors in other countries, they maintained the numbering system, giving that country a block of serial numbers beginning with Schematic's layout. The 70, 76, and 78 falling in the middle of the mentioned serial numbers is a coincidence only. Mitcho37's 65 horse is a 1976 model.<br /><br />I don't have the Canadian serial number series, but an established Canadian dealer with books/microfiches that go back that far ought to be able to look it up for you.<br /><br />- Scott
