What year is this Merc 9.8?

Have a chance to buy a 9.8 hp mercury outboard, serial # 2939384 Kiekhaefer, what year might this be? Also seller claims engine starts ok but dies out after 10 min and squeeze bulb on line goes soft, further claims to have consulted mechanic who thinks a carb kit will fix problems, any thoughts on this and is it worth $ 400.00 Can.

Its a 1970 model. Normally if you have to squeeze the bulb its a bad fuel pump. Put a kit in it for less than 15.00<br /><br />No its not worth 400.00 unless you really want it. Blue book is 100.00web page
