What year is this Mariner

Hi<br />A Friend has brought a Mariner 20EL with a supposed blown head gasket, the serial number is 6A9-L-550872.<br />Does anyone know the model year and have any thoughts on this engine?

G'Day. The motor is late 70'S or possibly early 80's. ca'nt give an exact age. this motor was manufactured by Yamaha and the did have a tendancy to blow head gaskets. If it has had a lot of salt water use the cylinder block could be badly corroded and there would be no support for the head gasket. Good luck.
