The DT8 serial # is 0801 107443 and is blue in color. I was thinking an 1981 model? I inherited a fairly unused DT8 (30hrs.) from my father in law about a year ago, I am having a problem with the Carb, For some reason it'll crank on the 2nd pull as always then start stumbeling about 30 seconds afterward and start spitting fuel from the top vent in the Carb... I cleaned it well and put it back together and it ran great, I then added seafoam as directed in hopes of preventing the issue from happening again, recently the problem has returned and now the cleaning wont help, we rigged the float thinking that it was the issue and it runs fine until you are underway for probably 2 or three minutes then it boggs down and shuts off, I noticed the pump bulb on the fuel hose doesn't stay tight all of the time(doesnt have much preassure) the problem is sometimes fixed when I pump that bulb up but sometimes it doesnt work and the motor stalls. I was thinking I need a carb rebuild... Any clues to what it could be?
Thanks,
Cwil

Yes it is a 1981 model .... make sure you have enough ventilation at the tank ... you can order a carb rebuild kit online on brownspoint.com ....

The problem could be a bad diaphram in the fuel pump.If pumping the primer
bulb helps.

Re: Important carb cleaning tips on Suzuki DT-8

The float needle has a spring loaded pin in the end that touches the float lever. It can get stuck, causing symptoms similar to yours. Remove the float needle and hold the fat end between two fingers and use a fingernail or pick to push on the pin. It's spring loaded and should move in & out of the needle freely. Blast it with carb cleaner and compressed air until it's free. Don't mess with the carb float height adjustment! It's not your issue unless you've already been bending the tangs on the float arm.

Second, move the throttle butterfly actuator (not the choke) and look just above the hole in the butterfly disk at the wall of the venturi. There are two super tiny holes and one not quite as tiny. The bigger of the three doesn't disappear when you close the butterfly. Stare at the carb body long enough and you'll visualize the passageway above those tiny holes. Use the red straw on your carb cleaner and blast out all those tiny holes. Blow forward and backwards thru them and follow up with compressed air. Those are the idle circuit and will cause your motor to run then die, and if you pull the choke you are bypassing them temporarily, but then the motor will die again if it is depending on those tiny passages for fuel.

Also, don't bother taking the fuel pump apart (on the side of the carb) unless you have a brand new diaphragm kit. Those brittle factory gaskets won't reseal if you try reusing them.

sometimes carb clean and compresser air aren't enough. if the carb dried up and the gas evaporated, the green crud/varnish left behind will need a little more persation sp a small wire does wonders. like off a twist tie
