What year is my Sea King 60 hp (I'll take any info on it)

I would greatly appreciate any information I could get on my motor. The Model # is GG8850A. I know that it is a sea king and that it was probably made in the 60's sometime. I have not been able to locate it in any of the old outboard maintenance manual books. It seems like this model was skipped in those books. Is there any other places or people that I could get info for this motor from? I am also interested in finding out how to wire the motor for an ignition switch.

dewey
Double check your model number, closest I can make it is GG-18805A .1963 Deluxe Electric 40hp.
Find an abos Third Edition outboard service manual, or other manual, for most service info. If is not a 40 hp, what is it?
Backfire ;)

That has been my dilema. it seems like there is no model with that number and it is a 60 HP. I am positive the model is GG8850A. On the plate it says that it is montgomery ward made by Gale. Please help me.

If your motor is indeed a 60 it should be a V4.
Gale made its own 60 at about that time.
If you have a Seaking 60 it must be a rare bird.
E/J parts will interchange and some may be available at NAPA. Good luck with your motor.

indeed it is a 4 Cyl. i tried to find the model in a few books and i can't seem to find it any where. I would like to know exactly what company made it and what year it is so that i can begin some work. it is an electric start if that helps, but it isn't starting at the present.

Dewey
The manual I mentioned in my first post, Third Edition Outboard Motor Service Manual. Published by ABOS Marine Division 1965. Available manuals now would cover the 50hp from the '50s and 60-75hp from the '60s. Another good book, Peter Hunn's, The Old Outboard Book.
Backfire ;)
