What year is my Mariner

Hi , Can't seem to Find any info on my motor , pinkslip says 1984 but.... tag on side reads mariner 40E 6E9 L 404321 made in japan
Need to separate lower and don't know how to disconnect shift shaft properly. Need a new impellor . Hoping you guys can give me some answers .got more questions later,, need manual too.Any Experts out there ? Thanks in advance Wayne

Also searched those five sites posted at top , didn't find anything close to my numbers

Hi there, welcome to iboats!

Running your engine serial number shows it to be model number 7040522 which comes up as an 1982.

Mercury service manual part number 90-84520--2. There's one eBay right now.

Try running the model number online for a parts catalog.
