I have a Johnson 40hp seahorse outboard that does not have a model #. The serial # J2,740,251. It is a RK model
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can buy a repair manual for it.
thanks

It should be number following the model RK #. For example, RKL-24

The model # is missing. I got the motor from a friend and he told me that it was an RK model. The outboard is also able to have either a long shaft or short shaft by having interchangeable lower unit shafts.
thanks

Can't say the exact year without the complete model number, but it's a 60s motor.
A dealer may can help narrow it down by looking up the serial number. Hopefully, someone else will chime in with another way to find out.

Look for a round, quarter sized plug on the powerhead. The model number may be there.
