What year is my Johnson Sailmaster 8 ?

Hi I'm Dale, this is my first post.<br /><br />I got this outboard a few years ago, at a garage sale, in great hardly-used shape. No idea of it's year.<br /><br />I also bought a 'universal' Evinrude/Johnson Clymer shop manual. Surprisingly I did not find an identifyer page to tell me the year (although of course knowing the year will facilitate using the manual.) <br /><br />I surfed the web (no luck), finally beaching here.<br /><br />So . . Can someone solve my mystery?<br /><br />Johnson Sailmaster 8, Model # J8SRLCCS made in Belgium.<br /><br />Does Bombardier give any support to old Johnsons?

welcome to iboats dale55.Your engine is a 1988 model.Here's a breakdown of the model number<br /><br />J= Johnson 8 = horsepower S= sail R= ropestart L= longshaft/20" shaft CC denotes a 1988 model and the last S is an insignificant model run letter.

Hello to you all,
I have an approx. 73,74 or 75 Johnson Sailmaster 8 hp with long shaft. Is the kill switch located at the end of the handle or tiller? If so, there is no movement in the button. Any help would be appreciated.

It is better to start your own new thread with your own question.

however i do not see an 8 hp listed for those years . What is the model number?

Apart from some very early ones the 8 hp ran from 1984 onwards.

If there is a button on the tiller end that is the stop button. It does not depress by very much.

It was on the tiller end in 84 and for a few years after but it was relocated to the side of the tiller in 1991.

Tell us the model number and then we can determine the actual year and look up the details
