this is my first question and also the first boat i have owned and im trying to figure out a few things so i can have more fun on the water without worrying about being stranded on the lake...I have searched online and cant seem to figure out what year is my motor and also what is the best kind of spark plugs for it?

the model number is J175TL CIM
the serial number is J5516424

and the boat is a 1990 all american larson.

now i just installed a new starter and i can easily start the boat at first but after i been on the lake and i turn it off its hard to start. Now i did some reading online and was told every johnson motor has its quirks on how to start it but it seems like im flooding the motor then i can wait like 15 minutes then it will start right back up. So what am i doing wrong?

is it possible i have the wrong plugs in it? They are the champion UL77V plugs.

thanks

Your model # indicates a 1981 Johnson. Are you choking it on the restart and are you pumping the primer bulb up? Some warm engines don't like to be choked or primed to be restarted; I know mine doesn't.

i always assumed it was a 90 engine so maybe i been starting it wrong? When i first start it i prime the fuel bulb until it is firm then i put the choke lever up and turn the key and hold it in for 8 seconds then i start it..it fires up hat way..but once i turn it off i start it the same way and it gives me problems..previous owner said carb is rebuilt and new plugs..So basically im starting it the wrong way but once its started it runs great with no problems and can idle for a long time without stalling out.

if it's warm, just turn the key
