I have an Evinrude 15 HP Super Fast Twin serial # 15012-09791.

What year is this and where's the best place to find parts? I need one of the three prong gas/air line feeds connectors for starters. And spark plug says Champion J9J. What's the current number I should use?

Howdy, Drymocke.

Welcome to iboats. :)

That's a 1953-54 engine.

The correct spark plugs are Champion J6C, gapped at .030"
Points gapped at .020"
Fuel mix is 24:1. 87 octane and TC-W3 outboard oil. (1qt. oil per 6Gal. tank.)

Read the tashasdaddy's sticky about converting to single line fuel pump at the top of this forum. Three prong, double line fuel lines, etc are sometimes on eBay, but precious.

That's a great motor. I have 3. Yours was built in 1953. Personally, I'd just buy the connector. You can find them on eBay, Twin City Outboard or various other suppliers.

Thanks! The motor was given to me after having sat in a garage for 20 years. Are there any other things that I should know about old motors...LOL
Just kidding...

Specifically around this motor? I heard that lower unit fluid is different for motors before around 1975. Would all of this be covered if I bought a manual?

And is it possible to buy a newer designed prop to correct the old prop's cavitation problem.

You can still buy new props for that motor. The stock prop is 9x11 for normal use or 9x9 for heavy loads. I'd check out your local OMC/BRP dealer too. I just picked up a used 9x11 weedless style prop for $10 at my dealer.

Check your coils. If they are original they need to be replaced. Might as well do the points/condensers and plug wires while you're at it. Replace the impeller. After 20 years it's shot. You can use regular 80/90 outboard lower unit oil. You might also have to rebuild the carb if its sat that long. All in all, you are looking at about $150CDN for parts if you do everything I mentioned.

I also have the parts manual for your motor. If you PM me your address I'll send it to you in pdf format.
