I have a Evinrude 18hp Fastwin and I cant locate the model number only the serial number A599. The compression is low so I will need to purchase parts to repair. Is there any way of working out what year this outboard is. Its in really great condition so I think its worth rebuilding.

Hi Darrenr. Welcome to iboats. You've got one of the all time great motors on your hands. If you look on the transom clamp, there should be a small metal tag riveted in place with both the serial # and model #. Once we know either of those figures, we can pin down an exact year. In the mean time, here's a great all around link for your motor.

Unable to read label on transom mount but found on the powerhead a round label with 15032 written on it. Done a Google search and I believe it's a 1960. Compression reads 40 psi on each cylinder. I have just soaked the cylinders with wd40 and will soak for a day or to before I re-check compression.
