What year is my 4 HP Mariner?

The serial number on this plate riveted to the top of the shaft (bottom of motor) is 6EO S 008273. I was told it's a 1990-1992 but I have doubts. I need to order a throttle handle, the guy fell onto the steering throttle handle and busted the aluminum handle right off. So any clues would be super helpful in me trying to buy a new handle.

I found this:

I have a mariner 4m

serial 6EO S 037640

Then the reply was:

Your engine is a 4hp, Manual start, short shaft... That's what the 4M means... The series of the engine is 4A... Year is between 1980 and 1987...

Have a look at this post for and explanation of the year... http://forums.iboats.com/showpost.ph...32&postcount=2

So I would assume mine is 1980-1984 somewhere in that range since my serial number is even lower then this person.

I went a different route. Crowley Marine lets you search for parts for your motor by serial number range. I plugged in your serial number and got to their online catalog for your engine. I still can't say for certain what the year model is, but this should point you in the right direction for getting some parts. This should be your motor based on the serial number. Have a look at the views here:

If so, you should be able to order your parts directly from them. I hope this helps... :)
