Ser.# R740839.............model E28ESLCCR

I am using my 9.9 short shaft in a Lowe 16' short shaft aluminum boat rated for 35 HP.

My 28 SPL is electric start. When I bought it new it was hard to start by battery & impossible by hand. Have a great mechanic now.

What is the TRUE hp difference ? Weight difference ?

At 73 now I need a easy starter.

Thanks for any help

The SPL is a 1988 and weighs approx 125 lbs. The 9.9 weighs approx 75 lbs.

Thank you very much bhile.

The 9.9 is a real pleasure. Gentile pull fires it cold or hot. 1/2 second blip of the starter same thing.

I told the wife to buy it with me.

Would like to use the 28 HP for the longer trips. I can move the battery to the bow locker to keep the boat level. Will I see a noticeable difference between the 2 motors at WOT. the 28 was refogged every few years to stop the rust. I actually put several ounces of 30 w into the cylinders after about 5 years of storage.

The mechanic will get the motor firstto see what is still good. had 2 hours of run time.

The 28SPL is 30HP, cyclops2. About triple the HP of the 9.9.

I would expect a huge difference in performance.

Get the 28SPL starting easy and you should be happy with her.

Good luck. :)

:):):):)

I thought the 28 meant 28 hp. :)

Question. It has the ....pin drive.... What metal should I use as the drive pin ? Are factory pins still available ?

Thanks everyone.

73 & I need to start doing "hand start" pull exercises.
