Ok I will try this again. Had the wrong serial number last night do to trying to read it in the dark. I am wondering what year Gen II Alpha one this is.

Serial number on the Mercruiser sticker on the out drive is OD777384 it also says 1.50R which I am going to assume is my gear ration of 1.50:1 All I can find is that it says it is a 1991-1995 but I would like to know exact year and how you guys find out the exact year. The Merc serial number lookup does not seam easy to decipher......

This boat is a 1994 21' Sylvan Barritz V209 and has a 327 chevy in it that is putting out about 300hp or more supposedly. It had the 5.7 litre 350 in it originally but was replaced when the block was cracked. will this out drive and gear ratio be able to handle this sort of power with a 5 blade 19 pitch prop? Any tips, info or advice is much appreciated. This is my first Mercruiser

Re: What year Gen II?

It's a 93 drive, 300 hp is the max recommended by Mercruiser for the Alpha drives.

There is nothing in the SN to give year. I find out using a dealer program.

Look at the HIN number, it's not uncommon for boats to have engine and drive packages of different years than the boat, by a year one way or the other. Boat manufacturers buy engines/drive packages from companies like Mercruiser, and Volvo. They usually order a years worth at a time. Engine years start around August, boats start the day the keel is layed, that could be Jan 1.
