with my 1972 Evinrude 65hp hydro electric shift

Got the motor dirt cheap but the throttle lever on the controls is broken the side covers are misssing. I was able to test run and drive it but would feel much more comfortable if I just replace the controls.

So what years and Horsepowers will work?

they used the electric shift from early 60's to 1972. i believe 1968 to 72 will work. if it looks the same it should work.

You need a hydro-electric remote with a yellow plug. That's the only one that will work properly.

If the shift switch in your current control works, do not discard it! Those switches are NLA parts but you might find a working control with a bad switch. Just swap the parts and you're good to go.

You might want to fix the one you have if you can as the electric shifts are rare and not cheap from what I hear...

well my thought was to do the following.

The Switch is good in the one that I have and the electrics are good in the one that I have.

I can get an older Selectric and I was going to gut it and rewire it with the electronics out of mine, and just part out the stuff out of the other.

So is it possible to take my wiring and switch and mount it in an older box from the schematics that i see all the mounting and hardware is very similar.

If all of the parts fit in the other remote and you use all of the electrical compnents, including the wiring cable with the yellow plug, I suppose you could do the conversion. That said, there are enough people trying to get rid of Evinrude hydro-electric remotes with bad switch, that you could probaly find one as eaily as the other type.

BTW, Evinrude called both the hydro-electric remote and the one for the other electric shift models "Selectric," so you have to pay attention to what you are buying.

Yeah I have been paying attention I need the one with the 6 prong switch not the three. I'd hate to spend money and get the wrong thing.
