Or anything you would like to share about these vitange beasts would be nice. Also how many turns usually on the mixture screw to start the adjustments on these guys start at 2 full turns out???

Thanks for any and all help guys...

I have no idea as to their age but they sure are cute. At the top of this forum there is a "Top Secret File" and a good deal of information about getting these motors back to work after a long sleep. Also info about carb. settings. Best of luck. Rick.

Thanks Rick I'll check it out. All the research I've done doesn't show any 3.5hp's in the era I believe these to be from... Are they Johnson's even. LOL

Those do not look like Johnsons or Evinrudes. They look like air-cooled, single cylinder motors. Is there any ID plates or labels on them?

I don't think they are Johnson or Evinrude either. I had a 1959 Johnson 3hp once - was red (maroon) and nice looking aerodynamic shape- not like those at all- never seen the shroud/tank shape

I'm thinking they are air-cooled Eska outboards (or derivative makes from Eska). Just guessing.

I can't tell about the one with the green l/u but the recoil on the blue/white one looks like a briggs and stratton recoil, did eska use briggs?

Come on guys, they are West Bend /Chrysler / Force motors. The company started out as West Bend, Chrysler bought them out, then Chrysler sold to US Marine as part of the original bail-out years ago.

Those motors were sold under those names and also were mede for stores like Sears, JC Penny, Wards, and others.

The models pictured are about the only air cooled motors worth a durn in my opinion.

neither of those are evinrude/johnsons, I believe the green one is a sears and both are based upon the popular wildly re-badged clinton engines. Some of the higher hp clintons used impellers, but I think yours are air cooled. I'd only use them in fresh water, salt water on a clinton was like acid. to really get them going right, if you have spark and compression is to have a super clean carb. and when they run right, they are great engines, otherwise, prepare to pull you hair out.

of course I just saw FR's post and he may be right too, but I've had several clintons and the transom clamp and leg look the same.

They appear to be Clinton air cooled outboards, had a couple as a kid, made by clinton motor co. Never could find parts for the ones that I had, and that was 45 years ago.

Yeah it's def a Elgin/West Bend etc.. this is great guys. so next question is that they are identical save the carbs. one is a little different then the other but besides that motor, tank shaft, etc is exaclty the same where they mostly the same through out the years??? if I need to order parts... if I can even where do i look?

Boat motors usually don't get run in a dusty/dirty environment, so they don't have air cleaners. Even inboards usually only had flame arrestors years ago.

Both Tillotson and Walbro carbs were used on those models. If they are 3.5 hp they were made from 1962 - 1965.

Re: What year are these outboards? HAS PICTURE!

Thanks guys! Great help! I assume the cork liner between the power head and gas tank is just used for vibration dampining.

If I need to buy points and or condensors for these old gals is there somewhere local I can pick them up. At a local bout supplier what manufatcure would match.
