Hi guys. Been reading your forums for 'bout 2 months now.. lots of great info. Keep up the good work!

I have a Johnson that I think over heated (no buzzer - but stopped dead in the water). Took off the cover and smoke everywhere, and smelled very hot to! Finaly cooled down about 2hrs later. It did start (on the trailer) so turned it off right away! Used it the next day, idled OK after getting it started, but when giving it more juice it kinda bogged abit but did seem to get better. I only ran it for about 5 mins. then went Bass trolling. (sorry for long story)

Checked w/local shops and they feel I have a bad water impeller and water pump. I want to replace the Impeller and Water Pump but no shop around can tell me the year.

The tag on the Engine clamp, on the boat, tells me Model # TRL-10R, the Serial # J2864547. This is a 55 hp Johnson 3 cyl. Can you locate the year and the basic instructions on the Impeller and water pump replacement.
I am a mechaninc, but never delved into marine..here goes.
Thanks for the help.
Jc

Go to an OMC dealer and get a complete water pump kit. The kit includes all parts you will need and complete instructions with pictures. By the way, I wouldn't attempt to run the engine until you do the water pump, or you will likely destroy the motor. Good luck.

Jc,The only TR10 55 hp I found was a 68.NAPA lists an impeller for a 68.If the dealer includes instructions it may be the best place to get it.
You should have a manual as well.

If at any time you wish to start your engine, make sure you supply plenty of water to the water intake on the lower unit. Submerge or use muffs.

Even a new impeller can be spoiled in seconds if run dry.
